Tra' Slaughter: Multi-Disciplinary Mixed Media Artist and Painter

Tra' Slaughter is a self-taught, multi-disciplinary artist based in Houston, Texas, whose work delves into the complexities of the human condition and social issues. Utilizing a variety of mediums including oil paint, collage, and found objects, Tra' Slaughter creates heavily textured and layered pieces that serve as profound visual narratives. Each artwork serves as a reflection on personal identity and the raw emotions inherent in contemporary life. One of the most significant endeavors in the artist's career is The Silent Muster Project, a live endurance painting series that honors U.S. service members lost to suicide. Through structured repetition and physical labor, Tra' Slaughter creates a visual muster where every mark represents a life lost, bringing scale and presence to abstract statistics. As a U.S. Air Force veteran, the artist’s military service informs the physical language of endurance and collective responsibility found within the work. Beyond large-scale projects, the portfolio includes expressive portraits and abstract compositions that demand attention by intentionally incorporating imperfections and organic forms. This body of work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and public mural projects, establishing the artist as a significant voice in the Texas art scene. The portfolio of Tra' Slaughter demonstrates a mastery of blending traditional techniques with experimental approaches to create visceral, thought-provoking art that examines the intersections of history and individual experience.
