TAAOD: Independent Architectural Practice and AI Research Studio
TAAOD, which stands for The Architecture and Other Design, is an independent architectural practice and research laboratory founded by Danish architect Peter Gustafson. The studio operates at the nexus of architecture, technology, and culture, specializing in the integration of artificial intelligence and generative tools into the professional architectural workflow. By exploring how emerging technologies can be applied critically and meaningfully, TAAOD supports other architectural firms and institutions through consultancy services, academic lectures, and hands-on workshops. This research-driven approach ensures that the studio remains at the forefront of digital innovation within the built environment. The studio’s portfolio encompasses a diverse range of work, from small-scale spatial interventions to complex feasibility studies and built architectural projects. A key highlight of their practice is the Metabolic Reclamation House, also known as the Corner House in Norway. This project demonstrates TAAOD’s commitment to sustainability and circular construction, utilizing salvaged industrial components and the principles of void metabolism to maximize space efficiency and reduce ecological footprints. The studio’s designs often feature a deep sensitivity to materiality, where structural elements are repurposed to create unique, multi-layered living environments. Collaboration and knowledge-sharing are fundamental to the mission of TAAOD. The practice has engaged with numerous prestigious partners and institutions, including the Aarhus School of Architecture, Innovation Norway, and various leading Scandinavian design firms. Through its work, TAAOD continues to challenge conventional urban growth models by advocating for degrowth and social-environmental sustainability. By bridging the gap between theoretical research and practical execution, the practice ensures that its contributions to the architectural field are both technologically advanced and culturally relevant to modern society.
