Studio Younghun Kim: Contemporary Art and Symbolic Painting
Studio Younghun Kim is the creative practice of a South Korean artist currently living and working in Milan, Italy. The artist's work is deeply rooted in the exploration of myths, unspoken stories, and symbols viewed through intercultural perspectives. Studio Younghun Kim investigates how image systems, historically tied to religious and cultural contexts, have become decontextualized in the modern digital era. By extracting and combining symbolic images encountered in the drift of culture, Studio Younghun Kim creates new pseudo-symbolism that aims to reveal and reconstruct underlying belief structures. The artist's professional background includes a B.A. in Decorative Art from the Accademia di Belle Arti Brera in Milan, a DUEF 1 Program at La Nouvelle Sorbonne in Paris, and a B.A. in Fashion Design from Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul. Notable artworks such as Ascention, Arrival, and Martyrdom of Saint Ursus Maritimus demonstrate a technique primarily utilizing acrylic on canvas. Studio Younghun Kim has participated in various solo and group exhibitions across Italy, Lithuania, and South Korea, including venues such as Museo Diocesano in Andria, Run Project, and Kintai Art Gallery. The practice reflects a philosophy that depth must be hidden on the surface, merging historical imagery with modern popular culture to challenge and reconstruct contemporary belief systems.
