Sarah Finucane: Contemporary Abstract Art and Mixed Media Design
Sarah Finucane is a contemporary abstract artist based in Connecticut, known for a practice that masterfully bridges the gap between structured design and raw, intuitive expression. After nearly two decades in Los Angeles as a Creative Director and Product Design Strategist for Fortune 50 brands, Sarah Finucane returned to her roots on the East Coast to establish her private art and design studio in a historic 18th-century barn. Her work is deeply influenced by her background in advertising and technology, which trained her to communicate through the nuanced lenses of composition, balance, and tone. Her artistic process is characterized by a dual nature: one impulse craves freedom and spontaneity, while the other is shaped by formal design thinking. This tension results in a sophisticated visual language where literal messaging is replaced by symbols, color, and emotional rhythm. Sarah Finucane utilizes a diverse array of mediums, including acrylics, oil sticks, spray paint, and ink, often incorporating collage and printmaking techniques with found objects like vintage wallpaper and sewing patterns. Sarah Finucane earned her BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her work has garnered significant international recognition, with features in British Vogue, Suboart Magazine, and Contemporary Collage Magazine. She has been selected as a Saatchi Art Collector Favorite and has collaborated with Anthropologie on exclusive print collections. Her pieces are collected internationally, and her career continues to evolve through solo shows and juried exhibitions, where she has received accolades such as Best in Show.
