Nicola Bertasi's creative work

Nicola Bertasi. Independent Documentary Photographer and Visual Artist.

Nicola Bertasi is an independent photographer and visual artist who operates between the creative hubs of Paris and Milan. With a deep academic background in Modern History, his practice is rooted in a humanistic approach that bridges the gap between traditional documentary photography and introspective visual storytelling. Nicola Bertasi is widely recognized for his long-term research projects that examine the intersections of memory, conflict, and the human condition. His notable work, "Like Rain Falling from the Sky," provides a sensitive cartography of the American conflict in Vietnam, moving beyond mainstream narratives to capture the faces and voices of those affected. This project earned him a finalist position in the 2019 Grand Prix of Documentary Photography. Another major series, "Pandemic Postcards," was awarded the Nera di Verzasca Prize for its innovative portrayal of global reflections during a time of crisis. Represented by Hans Lucas Studio, Nicola Bertasi has had his work published in prominent international magazines and exhibited at various galleries and festivals. His photographic tales serve as subjective and poetic explorations of history, encouraging viewers to engage with reality through a more intimate and personal lens.
