Naomi Ellis: Interdisciplinary Artist Focused on Connectivity
Naomi Ellis is a London-based interdisciplinary artist whose diverse creative practice encompasses sculpture, marbling, printmaking, and moving image. Born in 1994, she received her education at Central Saint Martins and Kyoto Seika University. Her work frequently investigates themes of connectivity, distance, and the interplay between the virtual world and the physical environment. Naomi Ellis draws deep inspiration from geology, cartography, and the fluid concepts of archipelagic thinking as described by Édouard Glissant. This theoretical framework allows her to explore how communities forge connections across significant differences. Her artistic output often features socially engaged projects and immersive installations, such as her work titled Biographies, which utilizes text, sound, and lighting to create multisensory experiences. Naomi Ellis is currently associated with Set Space Studio in Lewisham and has had her work recognized by the Ingram Collection of Modern British Art. Her projects like Searching For Utopia and Virtual Worlds demonstrate a critical reflection on technological influence and a desire to return to tangible material experiences. Through her experimentation with marbling and varied media, she continues to push the boundaries of contemporary fine art while maintaining a studio practice that bridges materiality and the digital experience.
