Miriam Hartmann: Contemporary Painter and Art Teacher
Miriam Hartmann is a German-born professional painter and art teacher who has been living and working in France since 2014. With a background as a graduate engineer in interior design and training in theology, her artistic practice is deeply rooted in both structural order and spiritual exploration. Based in Aix-en-Provence, Miriam Hartmann draws significant inspiration from the local landscape, particularly the forests of Cezanne and the iconic Mont Sainte-Victoire. Her work oscillates between figurative and abstract representations, capturing the essence of light, flora, and the rugged strength of rock formations. As a colorist, she often prepares her own paints using natural pigments and ochres, giving her canvases and papers a distinct tactile quality. Her Credo series and works on cemeteries demonstrate a profound interest in the intersection of visible reality and invisible meaning. Throughout her career, Miriam Hartmann has held over forty exhibitions across France, Germany, Switzerland, and South Korea, and was awarded the Prix Poésie21 in 2019. Her approach involves a constant dialogue with nature, often painting en plein air to translate the energy of the environment into her art. She maintains a gallery and studio, Galerie À, in the heart of Aix-en-Provence, where she invites visitors to experience the tradition of Provencal painting through a contemporary lens.
