Mark Beattie | Contemporary Abstract Metal Sculpture and Light Art
Mark Beattie MRSS is an award-winning sculptor based in London, recognized for his expertise in abstract metalwork. He received his BA in Contemporary Art Practice from Leeds University and an MA in European Arts Practice from Kingston University. In 2015, Mark Beattie won the Midlands Open and the Xerxes Sculpture Prize, and was subsequently elected as a Member of the Royal Society of Sculptors. His practice is defined by a lifelong fascination with geometric forms, particularly circles and spheres, which he views as symbols of harmony and happiness. Mark Beattie works with a diverse range of metals, including copper, steel, and zinc, frequently contrasting different finishes such as polished, weathered, or rusted textures. Over the last decade, he has integrated neon and LED lighting into his sculptures, adding a sense of energy and fluidity that guides the viewer's eye through continuous lines. His sculptures range in scale from intimate desktop pieces to monumental site-specific installations. With over 70 exhibitions worldwide, Mark Beattie has built a significant international following, with his works held in private and corporate collections across Europe, Asia, and the United States. His artistic approach balances the structural precision of metal fabrication with the poetic resonance of free-flowing curves and light.
