Lina Herrmans: Contemporary Fine Art, Sculpture and Installation
Lina Herrmans is a contemporary Finnish artist who creates evocative works through the mediums of sculpture, painting, and installation. Currently based in Helsinki, Finland, Lina Herrmans is an MFA student at the Academy of Fine Arts, Uniarts Helsinki, and previously earned First-Class Honours in the Independent Studio Programme at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Her artistic practice delves into the complexities of liminal spaces and the tensions that exist between being and not being, visibility and invisibility. By investigating memories and reflections of uncertainty, belonging, and remoteness, Lina Herrmans invites viewers to navigate unconventional spaces with sensitivity. Her significant projects, such as the three-part BFA thesis installation "Left Things," utilize a diverse range of materials including soap casts, clay, concrete, and pigment to explore sensorial and corporeal themes. As a feminist act, Lina Herrmans often uses "empty space" to take space, highlighting the unspoken and ambiguous aspects of identity and identity formation. Her works have been showcased in prominent exhibitions such as Kuvan Kevät 2025 and various group shows across Finland and the United Kingdom, reflecting a deep connection between physical materials and conceptual inquiry.
