Jordy Hewitt: Australian Abstract Painter and Colour Field Artist
Jordy Hewitt is an Australian painter based in Western Australia whose practice navigates the subtle intersections between interior and exterior emotional realms. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art and Design from Curtin University in 2014, Hewitt has developed a distinctive visual language centered on expressive colour fields created through complex layering and blending techniques. Her non-representational oil paintings serve as metaphysical landscapes, depicting bodily forces, identity, and the nuances of human experience. Hewitt's artistic process is described as intensive and cathartic, involving the addition and removal of matter to reveal deeper truths. Her work often addresses collective experiences by probing social facades and constructed realities. She is recognized as a skeptical optimist, using her canvases to investigate and rebel against problematic perceptions of beauty. Throughout her career, Jordy Hewitt has exhibited extensively across Australia in solo and group exhibitions. Her achievements include being a finalist in prestigious awards such as the Hutchins Art Prize, the Bayside Painting Prize, and the Mandorla Art Award. Notably, two of her works are held in the permanent State Collection of the Art Gallery of Western Australia. Her practice continues to be informed by the vastness of the Western Australian landscape and ongoing inquiries into mythology and astrology.
