Installation view of The Others series by artist Jingyi Zheng

Jingyi Zheng | Contemporary Artist and Interdisciplinary Researcher

Jingyi Zheng is a contemporary artist and researcher who investigates the complex intersections between human structures and non-human life forms. Born in Sichuan, China, Jingyi Zheng pursued artistic education in France, graduating with the highest distinction from the École Supérieure d'Art et de Design Le Havre-Rouen. Currently living and working between Chengdu and Chongqing, the artist's practice is deeply rooted in site-specific field research, speculative reconstruction, and the study of marginal environments. The artistic practice of Jingyi Zheng focuses on urban ecology and the way non-human entities adapt to, resist, or redefine their place within institutional and urban forces. One of the artist's significant projects involved an extensive residency in an abandoned real estate sales center in Chengdu, where Jingyi Zheng documented wild plants reclaiming a commercial void. This research informed the ongoing series "The Others," which utilizes VR scanning and digital archiving to preserve fragile ecologies that are often overlooked or erased by urban development. Jingyi Zheng employs a wide range of media, including installation, video, 3D modeling, and artist's books, such as the digital drawing project "See the Unseen." These works have been showcased in solo exhibitions including "Exit in the Wind" at the Galaxy Museum of Contemporary Art in Chongqing and "Stupid Us and Them" at C-PLATFORM in Xiamen. By integrating scientific methods with speculative storytelling, Jingyi Zheng challenges anthropocentric views of habitation and explores the resilience of marginal life forms across both physical and digital landscapes.
