Heidi Holmström: Site-Specific Installations and Interdisciplinary Artworks

Heidi Holmström is a multidisciplinary artist, cloud writer, and composer based in Den Haag, Netherlands. Born in 1997, her practice is rooted in questioning social geography, attributes of place, and the aesthetics of behavior. She holds a BFA from the Royal Academy of Arts (KABK) and studied at KASK Antwerpen, developing a method that emphasizes spatial recognition and the dialogue between art and architecture. Heidi Holmström often works through situation- and site-specific installations and interventions, utilizing a material non-hierarchy that allows her work to adapt to its environment. Her background in music composition and improvisational approaches informs her visual work, resulting in dynamic sonic landscapes and visual structures. Notable projects include Polaris, a site-specific installation in the former U.S. Embassy surveillance room, and 50Hz Conference Call, a 12-channel audio installation focusing on the temporal acoustic ecologies of birds on power lines. Internationally active, Heidi Holmström has exhibited and held residencies across Europe, including Finland, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, and Iceland. She is also a member of the artist collective The____Servers and engages in curatorial practices. Her work continues to investigate the boundaries of structures and the polyphonic scores of contemporary landscapes, supported by institutions like the Kone Foundation and Stroom Den Haag.
