Gleyson Borges • Visual Artist exploring afrocentric narratives and Territory

Gleyson Borges (b. 1992) is a Brazilian visual artist based in Alagoas, Brazil. His practice is grounded in interventions that explore multiple media and languages, including urban actions, installations, textile processes, wood, and print-based strategies. Through these hybrid approaches, he creates strong connections between form, territory, and narrative. Guided by an Afrocentric perspective, Borges’ work operates as a tool for resistance, memory, and emancipation, reflecting on contemporary Black experience and proposing urgent dialogues that provoke reflection and movement. His artistic process emerges from the need to externalize thoughts and sensations, seeking in each work the most precise medium to materialize these ideas and place them in dialogue with the world. By occupying walls, museums, and galleries, his work has been exhibited in cities throughout Brazil, as well as in international exhibitions in Portugal and Egypt. Rooted in everyday life and oriented toward collective experience, Borges’ practice expands possibilities for reimagining the past, inhabiting the present, and envisioning the future through a Black-centered perspective.
