Xavier Lust: Pioneering Furniture Design and Metal Sculpture
Xavier Lust is a distinguished Belgian designer and sculptor whose practice is centered in Brussels. He is internationally acclaimed for his revolutionary technique of metal deformation, a process where metal sheets are folded and curved into organic, fluid shapes without the use of molds. This signature approach has defined his career since the late 1990s, allowing him to create pieces that are both structurally strong and aesthetically graceful. Lust's diverse body of work includes industrial design for prestigious Italian and international brands such as MDF Italia, Driade, and De Padova, as well as limited-edition art-design pieces and large-scale public sculptures. One of his most iconic creations is the Le Banc bench, which has become a staple of contemporary design and is featured in permanent museum collections worldwide, including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Design Museum in Ghent. His portfolio also extends to interior architecture and street furniture, such as the bus shelters in Brussels and the Archidune installation. Based in a converted printworks in the Ixelles neighborhood, Xavier Lust continues to push the boundaries of technical innovation and sculptural form, blending the precision of industrial engineering with the poetic vision of fine art.
