Vaughan Matthews is a UK-born contemporary artist currently based in Barcelona, Spain, who has dedicated his practice to the exploration of digital art and complex collage techniques. With an academic background in Fine Art and Painting from Manchester Metropolitan University and a Master’s degree from the Chelsea College of Art (UAL) in London, Vaughan Matthews brings a painterly sensibility to the digital realm. His career has seen him establish studios in major European cultural centers, including London, Madrid, Rome, Paris, and Berlin, before returning to Barcelona in 2019. The artistic process of Vaughan Matthews is defined by the concepts of transformation, chance, and ephemerality. Utilizing digital layering and liquefying filters in Photoshop, he deconstructs and recycles materials sourced from film, photography, and the natural world to create semi-abstract compositions. These works often focus on the interplay of water, reflection, light, and shadow, aiming to create a sense of presence through absence. His portfolio includes significant projects such as Chimera, Scattered Dreams, Ephemera, and Vanitas, which explore poetic hierarchies and accidental visual structures.
