Valerio Magini | Illustrator, Book Author, Photographer
My name is Valerio Magini, and I tell stories with images. I draw to give shape to emotions, questions, and worlds that don't yet exist. I work primarily in editorial illustration and children's books, where imagination and thought meet and breathe. My illustrations speak to children, but often recognize and console adults as well. I seek a poetic and contemporary visual language, capable of combining lightness and depth. I am an Italian illustrator and work on editorial projects, children's books, thematic series, and illustrations that combine visual storytelling, symbols, and experimentation. Over the years, I have developed a personal illustration style made of dreamlike atmospheres, poetic and imperfect characters, soft colors, and a line that conveys fragility and possibility. I create illustrations for publishers, schools, cultural associations, magazines, events, and artistic collaborations. I believe that every image is a bridge between what we feel and what we cannot yet express. This is why many of my illustrations are born from a question, a silence, or a tiny detail. Through my characters, I explore themes such as wonder, the fear of diversity, the need to belong, and the courage of fragile dreams. I work primarily digitally, with an approach that preserves the material atmosphere of traditional drawing. I use textures, custom brushes, and deliberate imperfections to achieve a warm, narrative effect. I often start with sketches on paper, collect ideas in visual notebooks, and then build the final panels by combining hand drawing and digital composition.
