Tossuda Studio | Contemporary Ceramics, Barcelona
Tossuda Studio is the personal creative practice of Gemma Mercader, based in Barcelona. The studio develops ceramic pieces that move between everyday use and more sculptural or artistic explorations. The work is grounded in material, gesture and form, with particular attention to simplicity and tactile presence. Rooted in a Mediterranean context, the practice follows a slow, manual way of making, informed by local ways of working with clay and material culture. Each piece is made by hand, allowing variation, surface and small irregularities to remain part of the language of the object rather than something to be corrected. Functional objects for daily use coexist with more contemplative or sculptural pieces, allowing the studio’s production to move between continuity and experimentation. The practice operates as an independent project, where utilitarian function and artistic research remain in constant dialogue, and where the physical presence of the object — its weight, texture and proportion — is central to the experience of use or observation.
