Fotómetro | Contemporary Fine Art Photography and Visual Storytelling
Fotómetro is an artistic collaboration between London-based photographers Rona Bar and Ofek Avshalom. As partners in both life and their creative practice, the duo has developed a distinct visual language characterized by intimate and poignant portraiture that delves deeply into the human experience. Their work frequently features non-professional models, an intentional choice aimed at authentically capturing the individuality and raw essence of their subjects. Based in London, Fotómetro focuses on storytelling through a lens that celebrates diversity, exploring themes such as identity, gender expression, body diversity, and the beauty of the unconventional. The artistic style of Fotómetro is a bold fusion of documentary observation and dreamlike surrealism. Their compositions are marked by vibrant color palettes, meticulous staging, and emotionally charged narratives. Key projects include "Us," an extensive series documenting couples in the intimacy of their own homes across the UK and Europe, and "Lois & Carey," which examines the intergenerational relationship between a mother and daughter who are both Jewish artists. Their work "Proof of Existence" further emphasizes their commitment to normalizing personal "weirdness" and celebrating differences. The duo’s contributions to contemporary photography have earned significant recognition, including being named finalists for the Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize and the Lens Culture Portrait Awards. Their work has been exhibited at prestigious institutions such as the Saatchi Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, and the Jewish Museum in Vienna. Through their artistic practice, Fotómetro challenges traditional standards of beauty and representation, creating a space where authenticity and imagination coexist to invite viewers to reconsider what it means to truly be seen.
