Suzanna Schlemm: Artist Specializing in Disruptive Realism and Oil Painting

Suzanna Schlemm is a Brazilian-born artist now based in Darien, Connecticut, where she creates large-scale oil paintings that blend traditional observation with a contemporary approach known as disruptive realism. Her work is deeply rooted in the storytelling of an imaginary tribe of women, intricately connected with nature and animals, particularly birds. These paintings often feature layered compositions that explore themes of protection, quietness, and the artist's "inner sanctuary." Schlemm's professional background includes a ten-year career as an advertising copywriter before she shifted to full-time art in 2001. She received her artistic training at the New York Studio School, the School of Visual Arts, and the New York Art Students League, among others. She is a two-time recipient of the Mercedes Matter Prize (2020 and 2022) and is a Guild Member of the Silvermine Art Center. Her portfolio is categorized into several series, including Paintings, Works on Paper, and the Mermaid Series, as well as specialized portrait commissions for adults, children, and pets. Suzanna Schlemm also facilitates an innovative membership program on Patreon, allowing supporters and collectors to directly fund her creative process while receiving exclusive benefits. Her work has been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions across New York City and Connecticut, reflecting her strong connection to both her Brazilian roots and her current American artistic community through her evocative visual narratives.
