Susan Stover's creative work

Susan Stover Contemporary Mixed Media Artist

Susan Stover is a multidisciplinary artist who recently relocated to the Hudson Valley, New York, after many years in Northern California. Her work investigates the tension between fragility and stability, control and chaos, through stitched structures that bridge the arenas of painting, textiles, and sculpture. Using wood, cardboard, and heavy threads, Stover employs stitching as both a construction method and a conceptual framework to explore how systems—social, political, or cultural—are joined together. Her compositions are quiet records of time, labor, and intimacy, reflecting the precision and patience inherent in textile traditions. Susan Stover holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Miami University and a Master of Fine Arts from California College of the Arts. With a career spanning several decades, she has cultivated a unique voice that merges cultural textile practices with modern abstraction. In addition to her studio practice, she has taught workshops globally in countries such as Australia, India, France, and Mexico. Her art is included in numerous private and corporate collections and is represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery and Cura Contemporary.
