Studio Mignone: Handcrafted Functional Sculpture and Marble Furniture

Studio Mignone is an Australian-based design studio founded in 2018 by the creative duo Isabella Wood and Aldo Mignone. Operating from their workshop in Adelaide, South Australia, the studio specializes in the creation of handcrafted furniture and objects that occupy the space between functional design and fine art. Their practice is defined by a deep exploration of natural and industrial materials, particularly marble, terrazzo, concrete, resin, and glass. The studio's flagship piece, the Tavolo Morbido (Italian for "soft table"), gained international acclaim for its "illusionistic softness," featuring chunky cast pillars that contrast with smooth marble or glass surfaces. Aldo Mignone, with a background in furniture making and performance, and Isabella Wood, with a background in painting and drawing, combine their diverse artistic skills to produce limited-edition collections that emphasize tactile beauty and tonal harmony. Recent innovative projects include a playful, pop-inspired chess set featuring resin pieces designed to resemble discarded chewing gum. Each piece is meticulously handmade, ensuring that every object produced is a unique specimen. Studio Mignone’s work often subverts the typical use of heavy, rough materials like concrete, transforming them into soft-looking, minimalist forms. Their design philosophy centers on the intersection of family heritage and experimental material processes, resulting in a distinct aesthetic of maximal minimalism.
