Sebastian Scigalski | Abstract Painting, Minimalist Art

Sebastian Scigalski (b. 1981, Poland) is an artist living and working in Cracow. He graduated from the University of Silesia with a degree in Graphic Arts. His practice centers on the relationship between light, color, and silence, approaching painting as a space of presence rather than representation. Rather than constructing images that describe or illustrate, he builds atmospheres that unfold slowly in time. Working primarily with subtle tonal transitions and restrained chromatic tensions, he creates visual fields of quiet intensity and internal vibration. Raw linen canvas serves as both material and conceptual ground, reinforcing a sense of openness, fragility, and exposure. The surface remains luminous and unresolved, allowing perception to shift with changing light and distance. His works do not seek to narrate or symbolize, but to be encountered directly — as moments of stillness that precede interpretation, inviting the viewer into a state of attentive presence.
