Rainey Scarborough is a New York City–based multimedia artist, movement director, choreographer, producer, and educator. Her practice is defined by an interdisciplinary approach that weaves together performance, dance, photography, and movement education. Originally from the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she brings a deep understanding of visual storytelling and narrative to her somatic-rooted work. As the founder of Conjure Arts Collective, Rainey Scarborough produces multidisciplinary performances, workshops, and community events that emphasize collaboration and experimentation. Her choreography and movement direction explore themes of connection, embodiment, and transformation, seeking to create immersive experiences for participants and viewers alike. In addition to her work in the performing arts, she is an accomplished portrait and movement photographer, capturing emotion and kinetics with a distinct film aesthetic. Rainey Scarborough’s professional credits span collaborations with dance companies like OM Grown Dancers and musicians such as Field Medic, as well as brands including Chanel and Nike. She is also a 200-hour certified yoga instructor, integrating somatic inquiry into her teaching and artistic practice. Her work has been showcased at institutions like the American Dance Festival and various galleries and performance spaces in New York and North Carolina.
