Proof of Words: Digital Type Foundry and Unconventional Typeface Design
Proof of Words is an independent digital type foundry founded in 2023 by Leo Guibert and Fanny Hamelin. Operating between Paris and Amsterdam, the studio is defined by a deep-seated love for typographic curiosity and a commitment to unconventional design. The founders, who both hold degrees in type design from cole Estienne, initially bonded over sharing print proofs during their studies—a practice that eventually evolved into the professional collaboration seen today. The foundry’s retail catalog features a diverse range of typefaces, including PoW Galmi, PoW Alara, PoW Garnier, and the variable font PoW Limerick. Each project reflects the studio's focus on detail and technical precision. Beyond their retail offerings, Proof of Words provides specialized type-related services such as custom font development, font production, and font engineering. Their expertise covers everything from wordmark design to full type family creation, including language extensions for Latin and Cyrillic scripts, OpenType feature engineering, and the generation of variable font formats. Proof of Words also serves as a platform for research and collaboration, frequently inviting other designers to contribute. Leo Guibert and Fanny Hamelin maintain an active presence in the design community through teaching, workshops, and speaking engagements at international institutions. Based between Paris and Amsterdam, the studio continues to expand its catalog while supporting cultural and commercial projects with high-quality typographic solutions.
