Puja Sarkar is an Indian contemporary artist, curator, and social activist based in Kolkata, India. Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in autobiographical narratives and contemporary feminist symbolism, exploring themes of identity, womanhood, memory, resilience, and social transformation. Working primarily in painting, her visual language merges personal experience with broader cultural and socio-political reflections, positioning art as both introspective and socially engaged. Alongside her studio practice, Puja Sarkar is the founder of "SMS" - Artistic and Socio-Cultural Organization, a curatorial and community-driven collective that facilitates exhibitions, art talks, workshops, and interdisciplinary collaborations, fostering dialogue between artists, institutions, and the public. She is also the founder of "Bhalobasa Welfare Society", through which she actively supports underprivileged children, women and communities—integrating art education, cultural outreach, and humanitarian initiatives. Her curatorial work reflects a commitment to inclusivity, collective narratives, and socially responsive practices, bridging artistic creation with leadership and cultural advocacy. In recognition of her sustained cultural engagement, she has been serving as State Cultural Secretary of the International Reporter Association since 2018. Through her multifaceted practice as an artist, curator, educator, and social contributor, Puja Sarkar positions art as a catalyst for empathy, dialogue, and meaningful social change.
