Oliver Gough's creative work

Patience & Gough: Bespoke Furniture Design and Interior Studio

Patience & Gough is a distinguished design duo based in Windermere, within the heart of the Lake District, UK. Founded by Alice Patience and Oliver Gough, the studio evolved from a creative upcycling venture into a comprehensive interior design and furniture brand. Alice Patience began her journey in 2013 with 'Down The Rabbit Hole Furniture,' focusing on painting and restoring antique pieces. Following the partnership with professional photographer Oliver Gough, the brand transitioned to Patience & Gough, quickly gaining recognition for its unique aesthetic and craftsmanship. The duo gained prominence after exhibiting at 100% Design in Olympia, leading to a successful two-season tenure at Liberty London. Their practice is characterized by a 'Be Individual, Be Original, Be Unique' philosophy, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary sensibilities. Patience & Gough specializes in bespoke furniture design, often incorporating intricate wooden marquetry and sustainable materials like Eco-Wud, an agricultural waste-based alternative to MDF. A cornerstone of their recent work is the 'Signature Textiles' collection, a global collaboration with Ukrainian illustrator Yevheniia Vynokurova. This partnership produced vibrant designs such as Tora, Panthera, and Penrose Prowl, which are printed on eco-conscious velvet made from recycled bottles and 100% linen. Beyond furniture, the studio operates as a full-service interior design firm, working on prominent residential properties in the Lake District. They prioritize ethical foundations and sustainability, collaborating with master craftsmen like silk weaver Ron Smart to preserve heritage techniques while pushing the boundaries of modern luxury.
