Othmane Bengebara: Architect and Conceptual Artist Specializing in Spatial Design
Othmane Bengebara is a distinguished French-Moroccan architect, conceptual artist, and interior designer whose multidisciplinary practice explores the profound connections between space, narrative, and human experience. Born in 1990 in Rabat and currently working between Casablanca and Paris, Othmane Bengebara brings an international perspective to his work, having studied at the École Spéciale d'Architecture in Paris and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. His artistic and architectural philosophy is deeply rooted in the concept that life is a succession of days and nights, a dualistic theme he uses to examine natural cycles and collective transitions. As a co-founder of the New South collective, Othmane Bengebara is committed to promoting architectural and artistic thought emerging from the Global South. His portfolio includes diverse series such as Fall of an Era, Our Own Land, and Rise & Set, alongside significant spatial projects like the scenography for the Uzbekistan Pavilion at the 2024 Venice Art Biennale. His work often features recurring elements like the square and the mirror, which serve as tools to position the viewer within the artwork and encourage reflection on our role in a collective future. From large-scale installations like The Cloud to bespoke interior designs, Bengebara’s practice remains sensitive to landscape and cultural context, striving to redefine how we perceive the present and reinvent the future. Through his work, he invites the audience to consider the rhythms that govern both the natural world and nations, fostering a dialogue on inner and collective transitions.
