NikNak Turntablist Composer and Experimental Sound Artist

NikNak is a groundbreaking multi-disciplinary artist, composer, sound designer, and sound artist known for her innovative approach to turntablism and spatial electronic music. As the first Black turntablist to win the prestigious Oram Award in 2020, NikNak has established herself as a significant voice in the experimental music scene. Her work is deeply influenced by sci-fi, Afrofuturism, and cinematic storytelling, drawing inspiration from iconic media like Blade Runner and Cyberpunk 2077. NikNak has released several acclaimed albums, including her debut Bashi, Bashi X2, Sankofa, and the 2024 album Ireti, which was released on Matthew Herbert's Accidental Records. Her creative practice often involves live improvisation and the use of immersive surround-sound arrays to craft unparalleled sonic landscapes. Beyond her solo recordings, NikNak is a versatile collaborator who has shared the stage with artists such as Grandmaster Flash, Mr Scruff, and Madlib, and has performed at major venues and festivals including Berghain, Glastonbury, and Mutek. She also contributes to the performing arts as a sound designer for theatre, with credits at Leeds Playhouse for productions like Dracula and The Princess and the Pea. Additionally, she shares her extensive musical knowledge through radio shows on Worldwide FM and Refuge Worldwide.
