Nick Grellier: Multidisciplinary Contemporary Artist and Creator
Nick Grellier is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist living and working in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Her expansive practice encompasses drawing, collage, textiles, text-based works, and assemblage, often utilizing detritus found on roads and footpaths or items from family archives and house clearances. Nick Grellier’s work is characterized by an exploration of the tragic-comic state of human existence, addressing themes such as domesticity, memory, family illness, and the absurdities of small-town life. A central element of her discipline includes making a small drawing every day, a meditative act that functions as a visual diary or journal alongside accompanying text. Nick Grellier holds an MA in Fine Art and has been recognized for her contributions to contemporary art through exhibitions at the Royal West of England Academy (RWA) and the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize. She curates exhibitions and events and her creative output frequently involves collaborative projects: she is one half of (both laughing) Collaborative with Dr Emily Lucas and makes experimental films with artist Anna Cady. By employing low-value materials and simple methods, Nick Grellier challenges viewers to find significance in the mundane and overlooked. Her work is held in the Tate Archives and various private collections internationally, reflecting her standing in the UK contemporary art scene.
