Mathilde Rouiller's creative work

Mathilde Rouiller: Performance Art and Artistic Research Portfolio

Mathilde Rouiller is a Paris-born artist-researcher, performer, and visual artist who operates between Paris and Athens. Her practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of landscapes and what she terms the "ecology of gestures." By observing and choreographing the often-unnoticed movements of living organisms and their interaction with abiotic elements such as light, salt, and liquids, she creates diverse visual and performative works. Mathilde Rouiller holds a robust academic background, having graduated from EHESS in the history of dance and performance studies, a field she first engaged with at Columbia University in New York. She also participated in the Experimental Program in Political Arts (SPEAP) led by Bruno Latour at Sciences Po Paris. This research-driven trajectory informs her artistic output, which includes solo performances like "Fuir les Saumons" and collaborative projects such as "Au printemps, tu manges l'Automne" with Alice Guittard. Her professional experience includes roles as an artistic director for her studio, The Textured Form, and as an assistant to renowned lighting designers Hervé Descottes and Odile Soudant. She has been a resident artist at prestigious institutions including Maison Artagon, Flux Laboratory Athens, and Atopos CVC. Mathilde Rouiller continues to expand her research into regenerative hydrology and Mediterranean rituals, further bridging the gap between artistic expression and environmental consciousness.
