Marie et Alexandre: Poetic Product and Furniture Design Studio
Marie et Alexandre is a design studio established in 2020 by French designers Marie Cornil and Alexandre Willaume. Based between Paris and Marseille, the duo brings together complementary expertise in industrial design, visual arts, and traditional craftsmanship. Both founders spent several years honing their skills at the prestigious Studio Bouroullec before launching their collaborative practice. Their work is characterized by a minimalist aesthetic that bridges the gap between functional product design and sculptural art, focusing on deep material exploration and formal research. Marie et Alexandre focuses on the expressive qualities of diverse materials, including thermoformed glass, ceramics, metal, wood, and textiles. Their design process often involves residencies and close collaborations with artisanal producers, such as the Alain Vagh ceramic factory. This hands-on approach is evident in projects like the Coupelle coffee table for Driade, which features a rippled glass surface inspired by the movement of water, and the PYL lamp collection for Petite Friture, which utilizes a bold 20th-century Italian-inspired color palette. The studio has gained significant recognition in the collectible design scene, participating in major international platforms like Design Miami and Maison & Objet. Their scenographic work, such as the 2024 intervention in Apartment 50 at Le Corbusier's Cité Radieuse, showcases their ability to engage objects in a poetic dialogue with architecture and light. Through exhibitions like Iris and Horizons at Galerie Signé, Marie et Alexandre continues to investigate the boundaries of balance, transparency, and materiality in contemporary design.
