Luisa Muhr - Interdisciplinary Vocalist, Composer, and Performance Artist

Luisa Muhr is a highly versatile interdisciplinary performer, improviser, and art-maker whose creative practice sits at the intersection of vocal art, movement, and experimental theater. Originally from Vienna, Austria, and now primarily based in New York City, Luisa Muhr has established herself as a leading voice in the international avant-garde scene. Her artistic work is centered on uncovernig the unseen and unheard through the sonic and physical exploration of space, a process she often describes as "field work." Muhr is a certified Deep Listening® Practitioner and a Soundpainting practitioner, using these specific methodologies to inform her performances and teaching. Her extensive portfolio includes solo debut albums like "TEUFLIN/SHE-DEVIL" and "In Trialogue," as well as frequent collaborations with renowned figures such as John Zorn, Meredith Monk, and Arturo O’Farrill. She serves as the vocalist for the free improv band PlayField and is a core member of the audio-visual collective Dilate Ensemble. As a curator, Luisa Muhr founded and led "Women Between Arts" at The New School, a series providing a vital platform for interdisciplinary women and non-binary artists. Her performance history includes prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, MoMA PS1, The Getty Museum, and National Sawdust. Whether creating graphic scores, directing experimental theater pieces, or developing new operas, Luisa Muhr remains dedicated to the raw exploration of trust and surrender in the present moment through sound and movement.
