Lara Damaso: Exploration of Body, Voice, and Performance Art
Lara Damaso is an artist and performer whose work is defined by an intensive investigation into the relationship between the physical body and the vocal instrument. Born in Biel/Bienne in 1996, Lara Damaso has developed a multidisciplinary practice that spans performance art, contemporary dance, vocal research, and installation. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and also studied at the Hochschule fr Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig. The core of Lara Damaso’s artistic research involves the expressive, therapeutic, and political potentials of the voice. By treating the body as a space of resonance and a living archive, she explores how vocal techniques can be used as vectors for resistance and transformation. Her performances often link movement and sound through structured improvisations, bypassing traditional intellectual enunciations to focus on sensory and vibratory experiences. Lara Damaso has presented her work at numerous prestigious institutions, including the Kunsthalle Zrich, Kunsthalle Bern, and the Centre d’Art Contemporain Geneve. Her recent projects, such as 'For Our Flowing Voices; I Amphorae', utilize ceramic sculptures and underwater soundscapes to further explore the anatomy of breath and the flow of the voice. As an associate artist at Gessnerallee in Zurich, she continues to push the boundaries of performance by deconstructing disciplined uses of the voice and fostering dialogues through movement.
