Khim Mata Hipol: Contemporary Multi-disciplinary Artist

Khim Mata Hipol is a contemporary multi-disciplinary artist whose practice explores complex intersections of identity, heritage, and place. Born in 1999 in San Fernando City, La Union, Philippines, Hipol currently lives and works on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations. His body of work includes thought-provoking projects such as Anak ng Lupang Hinirang, Oh Canada, and Lupang Hinirang: Oh Canada, which examine the nuances of the Filipino-Canadian experience and the politics of belonging. Hipol’s artistic output extends beyond traditional gallery spaces into significant public art commissions, including installations at Aberdeen Station and Lynn Valley Forest. His portfolio features diverse series like Shining Shadow, Portraityal, and Bangkang Papel, alongside text-based works such as 'SAN PUNTA MO? HUWAG MAGING DAYUHAN SA SARILING BAYAN. In addition to his studio practice, Khim Mata Hipol is involved in the Filipino Artist Registry and various curatorial projects, further contributing to the cultural discourse.
