Katia Wille: Contemporary Visual Art and Cognitive Sculptures

Katia Wille is a distinguished visual artist and researcher born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With a master's degree in art from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, she has developed a unique artistic language that bridges the gap between traditional fine arts and cutting-edge technology. Her work is characterized by "polutropias," a term she uses to describe the fluid, multi-formed nature of the human body in constant movement. Katia Wille explores the tensions between presence and absence, using the feminine form as a central theme to investigate the essence of identity and transformation. One of her most notable projects is "Tota Machina," a series of cognitive sculptures created in partnership with Microsoft that use artificial intelligence algorithms to move in response to human emotion. This project has been exhibited at major institutions like the Museu de Arte Sacra in São Paulo and the Museu da República in Rio de Janeiro. Wille’s diverse practice also includes the "O Avesso do Vestir" residency, focusing on wearable installations made from textile waste. Her work has been showcased internationally, including a solo exhibition at theBlanc Gallery in New York in 2024. Throughout her career, Katia Wille has maintained a deep commitment to visual research, documenting her process through dense artist notebooks that serve as a foundation for her large-scale paintings and multimedia installations. Her art invites the audience to transcend the role of a mere spectator and become an integral part of the sensory experience through movement and color.
