Kate Herbert-Roche | Artist and Painting Portfolio

I’m Kate Herbert-Roche, a Sussex-based painter. I studied Fine Art at the University of Gloucestershire, graduating in 2007. I work from my home studio near Brighton and Hove in East Sussex, UK and also out and about in the Sussex landscape, painting either in my car or directly in the landscape. I work primarily in oil paint on either board or canvas and have spent many years exploring the possibility inherent in paint - colour, texture and the quality of drawing it can be led to. For me there’s just nothing like oil paint although I do also work in pencil, pastel and I dabble in print making. From time to time I teach painting workshops which are hugely enjoyable - there’s nothing quite like guiding people beyond the fear of beginning a painting and helping them to see what they’re capable of! Alongside my own practice I offer commissioned portraits and landscapes.
