Isacco Emiliani: Photography and Documentary Filmmaking
Isacco Emiliani (b. 1991) is an Italian photographer and filmmaker based in Faenza, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. His practice is rooted in long-term personal and commissioned projects focused on sustainability, environmental protection, and conservation. Among his most significant works is Arctic Visions, an ongoing multi-year exploration of the Arctic’s fragile ecosystems — from Alaska and Greenland to the remote Svalbard archipelago. The project documents the environmental and cultural transformations affecting northern landscapes and Indigenous communities, offering a visual testimony to climate change. Another important body of work, Ottantuno, was developed alongside his grandfather and centers on monumental trees in Italy. The project evolved into a limited-edition artist book celebrating biological heritage, memory, and intergenerational connection. Alongside his personal research, Emiliani develops commissioned projects that have led him to produce documentaries in Amazonia, Greenland, Africa, and across Europe. These collaborations have resulted in documentary films, art books, and in-depth reportages that expand environmental storytelling to broader audiences while maintaining a strong authorial vision. Emiliani’s work has received international recognition, including the Marco Bastianelli Prize and the Bronze Book at the Tokyo Foto Awards. His projects have been exhibited at major festivals such as Circulation(s) in Paris and the Panormic Festival in Barcelona. Blending documentary rigor with a refined fine art sensibility, Isacco Emiliani creates immersive visual narratives that foster awareness and a deeper connection with the natural world.
