Ionut Claudiu Vancea's creative work

Ionut Vancea: Illustrator and Artist

Ionut Vancea is an independent illustrator and artist from Romania, based in Berlin, working at the intersection of conceptual art, humour, and visual storytelling. His drawings are deliberately simple—graphic lines, clear compositions, and selective blocks of colour—but they aim for complex resonance. Starting from ordinary objects, habits, and social rituals, he builds images that behave like ideas: a small logic twist, a quiet contradiction, a caption that changes the whole scene. His practice is driven by curiosity and repetition—returning to a theme again and again until it reveals something universal. Language often becomes material in the work (single words, titles, signs, instructions), not as explanation but as a second image with its own limits and misunderstandings. The tone is playful and accessible, yet the intention is precise: to make viewers pause, recognise themselves, and think without being lectured. Alongside personal series and zines, Ionut collaborates with editorial and cultural clients on illustration and short animated pieces.
