Independent Collectors: The Global Platform for Contemporary Art

Independent Collectors is an international community and publishing platform for contemporary art, headquartered in Berlin, Germany. Since its founding in 2008 by Christian Kaspar Schwarm, the organization has grown into the largest online resource of privately owned art, connecting more than 6,000 collectors from over 100 countries. The platform was created with the mission to act as a long-lasting chronicle of private art, providing a secure space where collectors can share their passion and knowledge with a like-minded audience. Independent Collectors hosts over 500 digital exhibitions that make private collections accessible to the general public, encouraging a broader appreciation of contemporary art. In addition to exhibitions, the platform features a digital magazine that includes in-depth interviews with both established and emerging collectors, studio visits, and curated content from global art fairs such as Art Basel and Frieze. By offering a transparent look into the world of private patronage, Independent Collectors helps bridge the gap between private collections and the public sphere, fostering inspiration and debate within the art world. The organization is recognized for its contributions to art mediation, including receiving the Art Cologne Prize. Through its digital presence and collaborative projects, Independent Collectors continues to shape the discourse around collecting and supports a global network of art enthusiasts, curators, and institutions.
