Imke Lohmann: Abstract Art and Mixed Media Works
Imke Lohmann is a German artist and educator whose work bridges the artistic traditions of Europe and Asia. Born in Gttingen, she studied at the Mainz University of Applied Sciences and later graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. Imke Lohmann’s artistic practice focuses on abstract paintings and mixed media objects that explore the intricate interplay of structures and color. Her inspirations are drawn from diverse landscapes, metropolises, and various cultures, specifically influenced by her time at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou. In her creative process, Lohmann experiments with a variety of materials, ranging from traditional oils and acrylics to recycled elements like old magazines, color tapes, and fabrics, creating tactile, multidimensional works. Beyond her studio practice, Imke Lohmann has a significant academic career, serving as an associate professor at Chengdu University and the International CCAA in China since 2019.She is a member of the Deutscher Werkbund and has received numerous accolades, including the Conch Award and the Instructor Award in international design competitions. Her portfolio includes paintings like Sweet Dream I and the China House series, as well as extensive work before in book design and illustration. Lohmann’s work has been exhibited internationally, from the Kunsthaus Hamburg to the Blue Roof Museum in Chengdu for art and design.
