Hsin Hwang | Contemporary Artist Exploring Mysticism and Spiritual Landscapes

Hsin Hwang is a Taiwanese visual artist whose work is deeply rooted in the intersection of spirituality, mythology, and psychological inquiry. Born in 1998 in Chiayi, Taiwan, Hsin Hwang was raised amidst the rich cultural tapestry of Taiwanese folklore, temple festivals, and indigenous animism. This early exposure to the spiritual in the natural world profoundly shaped her artistic imagination, leading her to explore the invisible layers of meaning in everyday rituals and symbols. Holding a Master of Arts in Print from the Royal College of Art in London and a Bachelor’s in Fashion Design from Shih Chien University, Hsin Hwang employs a diverse range of media, including painting, drawing, textiles, and installation art. Her practice is heavily influenced by Jungian psychology—specifically concepts of the collective unconscious, shadow work, and archetypes—as well as European fairy tales and cross-cultural mythologies. Through works like 'The Scent of the Moon' and 'The Unseen,' she creates vibrant, symbolic landscapes that serve as a process of self-inquiry and spiritual transformation. Hsin Hwang’s visual language often features playful, childlike elements combined with complex spiritual themes, aiming to transform her art into a healing and caring force. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Saatchi Gallery in London, and is held in various private and institutional collections. By bridging traditions of the Global South with Western psychological frameworks, Hsin Hwang continues to navigate questions of identity, belief, and the universal pursuit of connection with the divine.
