Hoyeon Kim: Contemporary Painting and Photography Portfolio

Hoyeon Kim is a South Korean contemporary artist based in Seoul and Gyeonggi, whose work explores the intricate relationship between photography and painting. Through a practice of reconstructing photographic images into monochrome oil paintings and cyanotypes, Hoyeon Kim investigates themes of memory, delayed perception, and the evaporation of narrative. Kim's artistic approach treats photographs as subjective data, transforming them into works that function like photographic negatives—capturing the traces of existence while maintaining a state of delayed sensory reception. Hoyeon Kim holds a BFA in both Painting and Photography from Chung-Ang University (2022) and is currently pursuing an MFA in Painting at the same institution. Notable solo exhibitions include Blue Bubble Eucalyptus (2024) at ArtSpaceJ Cube1 and Flowing Mind (2022) at Gallery Millstudio. Kim's portfolio includes significant works such as Asteroid (2025), Pulse pouch (2025), and A portrait from the ground (2025), alongside independent publications like The book of BBE and The Most Personal Experience. By bridging text, image, and subjective experience, Hoyeon Kim continues to push the boundaries of visual art through experiments with light, shadow, and temporal delay.
