Heidi Kebe: Interdisciplinary Performance Artist & Creative Director.

Heidi Kebe is an interdisciplinary performance artist and creative director based in Pittsburgh, PA, and Dakar, Senegal. Her practice is rooted in the Great Plains, where she developed a fascination with the intersection of the body and the natural landscape. Heidi Kebe explores the portrayal, oppression, and subversive existence of women in contemporary society, often confronting issues of racial and misogynistic injustice through her work. She utilizes a wide range of media, including sculpture, photographs, moving images, and live performance, to blur the lines between public and private spaces. As a co-founder of the Propelled Animals collective, Kebe engages in transdisciplinary arts and social justice, collaborating with dancers, scholars, and musicians to create immersive, site-specific works. Her notable projects include Upriver, Downriver, CONFLUX, and SWITCH SIGNAL, which investigate the potency of history, mythology, and environmental ecosystems. She holds an MA and MFA in Intermedia and Sculpture from the University of Iowa and currently serves as an Associate Creative Director at Carnegie Mellon University. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and supported by prestigious grants including the MAP Fund and the National Performance Network. Through her ritualistic performances and sculptural objects, Kebe continues to illuminate the overlooked and forgotten.
