Gloria Books: Intercontinental Art and Photography Publishing Platform

Gloria Books is an intercontinental publishing platform and collective that focuses on the production of art and photography books. Founded in 2017, the organization is managed by Berlin-based photographer Alice Connew and Auckland-based graphic designer Katie Kerr. Gloria Books operates as a multidisciplinary research facility where the founders explore the intersection of art, design, and critical publishing practices. The imprint approaches book-making as a holistic process, managing every stage from conceptualization and design to the final print. By uniting their individual self-publishing pursuits, the founders of Gloria Books created a support system to navigate the complexities of the independent publishing world. While the collective focuses on its own internal projects, it also engages with the broader creative community through initiatives like the Guest of Gloria program, which supports artists, writers, and designers. Their catalog features a diverse range of printed matter, including art writing, essays, photography monographs, poetry, and short stories. Based across Germany and New Zealand, Gloria Books emphasizes collaboration and community, treating each publication as a full expression of the artist's intention and a critical exploration of the book as an object.
