Eliza Soroga's creative work

Eliza Soroga | Contemporary Performance Artist and Filmmaker

Eliza Soroga is a highly acclaimed performance artist and documentary filmmaker whose practice bridges the gap between everyday reality and contemporary art. Based between London and Athens, she holds advanced degrees in Performance Making from Goldsmiths University of London and Cultural Theory from the National University of Athens. Her artistic methodology is primarily site-specific, transforming public spaces and architectural sites into immersive stages that invite reflection on social structures and human psychology. One of the most significant milestones in Eliza Soroga's career was being named the Overall Winner in the Performance & Video Art category at the 11th International Arte Laguna Prize in Venice for her provocative work, 'Women in Agony'. Eliza Soroga is also the founder and Artistic Director of the non-profit organization Unclassified Actions and the movement Re-Inventing Public Spaces, through which she investigates the concept of 'Theatrum Mundi'. Her diverse portfolio includes notable projects such as 'Roots', presented at the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, and 'Beware of Nightfall in Paleochora', an immersive audio experience exploring Kytherian legends. Her work has been commissioned by major institutions including Arts Council England, the City of Athens, and the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation. Beyond her creative output, she contributes to the field as a visiting lecturer at institutions like Central Saint Martins and the University of East London. Whether through live performance, film, or 3D soundscapes, Eliza Soroga continues to challenge the boundaries of contemporary art by engaging deeply with local communities and the eerie nuances of daily existence.
