Elisa Michelet | Artist and Designer specialized in Fine Art Photography
Elisa Michelet is a French Californian independent artist and designer whose multi-disciplinary practice bridges the realms of graphic design, analog photography, and bookmaking. Currently based in Tokyo after periods in Paris and San Francisco, Michelet's work is deeply rooted in exploring the complex interactions between humans and their environments, whether digital, natural, or built. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Design Media Arts with a minor in Film and Television from UCLA, a background that informs her analytical yet poetic approach to visual storytelling. Her artistic portfolio includes notable projects such as Dérive (2023), a limited edition photo zine that documents her wanderings through Matsudo, Japan, during a residency at Paradise Air. This work utilizes the Situationist concept of La Dérive to capture the spontaneous pull of pampas grass and urban waterways. Other significant exhibitions and residencies include the Wrack Zone solo show in Tokyo and the Kumonodaira Artist Residency. Through her lens, Michelet examines sustainability, culture, and the way technology interacts with form. Her tactile approach, often involving physical bookbinding and printmaking, reflects a commitment to the materiality of the image in a digital age.
