Elian Stolarsky: Multimedia Artist Exploring Memory and Migration
Elian Stolarsky is a distinguished visual artist and poet whose creative practice serves as a bridge between historical inquiry and contemporary artistic expression. Based between Spain and Uruguay, Elian Stolarsky has cultivated a unique multidisciplinary approach that merges traditional methods—such as printmaking, drawing, and hand-sewn textile art—with digital technology and immersive installation. Her work is deeply rooted in the exploration of memory, migration, and the silent legacies of past violence. Through projects like Inventory and Strange Country, she examines how history is a construction built from choices and how memory functions as a vital link between individuals and their collective past. Elian Stolarsky graduated with Great Distinction from the Kask Conservatorium in Ghent and the National School of Fine Arts in Montevideo. Notably, she was the youngest artist to hold a solo exhibition at the National Museum of Visual Arts in Uruguay. Her portfolio features large-scale mended canvases and drypoint engravings on plexiglass, often resulting in non-linear narratives that challenge viewers to reflect on their own relationship with identity and historical witness. By utilizing materials like scraps of fabric and varied printmaking techniques, she transforms archival concepts into tangible, layered experiences that address the human condition across generations. Her artistic production refuses to forget the past, inviting a slow reading of images that contrasts with the fast-paced visual consumption of the modern era.
