Elena Corbu's creative work

Elena Corbu | Visual Artist & Fine Art Photographer

Elena Corbu is a self-taught visual artist and photographer based between rural Romania and Bucharest. Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in an intuitive and sensory-driven exploration of the human condition, specifically focusing on the fragility of the body, the persistence of memory, and the intricate connection between humanity and nature. Elena Corbu approaches photography as a medium of profound introspection, creating a visual language where presence and absence, self and environment, exist in a continuous and fluid dialogue. Her work is characterized by a minimalist aesthetic, predominantly using black-and-white photography to strip away excess and distill reality to its most essential elements. By using light and shadow as primary compositional tools, Elena Corbu constructs conceptual spaces that invite the viewer to slow down and contemplate. Her images often feature textures, contours, and voids that evoke felt emotions rather than literal representations, treating the body as a landscape marked by both visible and invisible traces of time. Elena Corbu has developed several significant photographic projects, including "Don't Give Up on Me," a therapeutic and personal exploration of resilience, and "Remember," which examines the intersection of femininity and vulnerability. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in major cities such as London, Paris, Bucharest, and Cluj, and has been featured in international media. Through her research, she seeks to reclaim authenticity in a contemporary world often dominated by filtered imagery, offering a meeting point between perception and transformation.
