Christo Guelov: Urban Art Interventions and Visual Installations
Christo Guelov is a Madrid-based visual and conceptual artist whose work revitalizes the urban environment through high-impact artistic interventions. Central to his practice is the exploration of color, geometry, and their relationship with public space. He gained international recognition for his project Funnycross, where he transformed traditional zebra crossings into vibrant, geometric compositions. This project highlights his interest in the intersection of art, functionality, and urban safety, encouraging both pedestrians and drivers to engage more deeply with their surroundings. Christo Guelov’s multidisciplinary portfolio extends beyond urban interventions to include kinetic installations, such as High Up in Veliko Tarnovo, and digital Net Art series like Color Time, which utilizes programming to explore chromatic evolution. His work often investigates human perception and the emotional impact of color, seeking to provide a real presence to overlooked or invisible aspects of the cityscape. By introducing dynamism into grey, monotonous urban zones, he challenges the standard tonality of modern cities. With a background in mural painting and graphical technologies from the National Art Academy and Complutense University of Madrid, Christo Guelov combines traditional artistic techniques with contemporary multimedia design. His projects, which range from large-scale public installations like Organicum and Confluence to expressive paintings such as Scream, reflect a commitment to spiritual purity and visual dialogue. Through his studio, XTO, he continues to develop creative solutions that bridge the gap between art objects and urban utility.
