Chri8 studios is an art studio based in Nairobi Kenya

In this body of work, I explore the socio-spatial dynamics of Nairobi's informal settlements, capturing the vibrant energy of their bustling streets. Using acrylics, I employ bold strokes and a vivid color palette influenced by Claude Monet, whose masterful use of light and color inspires my approach to atmosphere and emotional resonance. I sketch with an emphasis on negative space, exposing the fragile, almost wall-less nature of the structures, while focusing on the asymmetrical forms of the houses. Complementary colors and palette knife work define the outlines, lending shape and texture. A dark blue shade serves as my foundational background, a hue I also apply to my subjects, reflecting the deep skin tones of the people. This color grounds the composition, offering the richest shades and embodying my conceptual thread: the base color is also the ending color, as I paint the subjects last, adding a final, delicate touch that completes and unifies the vibrant palette.
